Keepsake Chest - Elm - 8 x 4.25x 5
Exterior: 8 x 4.25x 5 inches
Interior: 7 x 3 x 4 inches
(length, depth, height)
A practice in different ways to make boxes and lids, this chest is made out of elm salvaged from a log found in a woodchip order. The log was air dried, then cut into rough lumber, dried further, cut into dimensional lumber, and then dried yet again until it reached and ideal <8% moisture. Elm is lightweight but strong and while its twisting woodgrain can leave a rough appearance in spots its absolutely beautiful in the light, looking much like curly maple with darker coloration. A unique box with brass corner guards, hinge, and clasp finished with tung oil and beeswax.
